So, hey, the Golden Globes weren’t that cracked out, at least in the movie categories, which is great. The Handsome Man sweep of the acting categories as nice and I’m super pleased that The Descendants did surprisingly well. I thought it would be this year’s nominated-a-lot-but-winning-very-little film. Perhaps that’ll be War Horse, or, eep, Moneyball (which I watched yesterday and quite enjoyed) instead.
I don’t watch much tv, though, so those categories are a mystery. I’m not even a ‘tv is a waste of time’ person, but I feel like one needs to really invest in a show to watch it nowadays. I say ‘Oh, right, I really meant to start watching that’ a few times a week (I’m not exaggerating), and often find out later that they’re in, like, season 4 already. Stupid weirdo cable schedules and my lack of initiative.
These days, I pretty much only watch ‘Jeopardy!’, ’30 Rock’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Parks & Recreation’, and, occasionally, ‘Up All Night’ or ‘Law and Order: SVU’ (not the same without Stabler, it’s true). Oh and reruns of ‘Futurama’ and ‘The Simpsons’. I’m eagerly awaiting the returns of ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Community’. I have seen the first episodes of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ and liked them, so I will be watching more. I am deeply irritated that I can’t find ‘Todd Margaret’ on On Demand services. I have never seen ‘Modern Family’. Or ‘Friday Night Lights’. Or <insert name of any other critically acclaimed series>.
That’s about it. I used to plan my week, hell, my day around television (if I got home from school fast enough, I could watch TWO reruns of ‘Facts of Life’ every afternoon), but now, clearly, I mostly just watch on Thursdays. Which now doubles as laundry night most weeks. I can mostly blame getting out of the habit after working in a cinema for many years (I used to never be home in the evenings ever), but maybe I should be watching more TV? I have no patience for reality anything anymore (I haven’t watched ‘Survivor’ since the first African one, and that was largely due to an Ethan Zohn crush – how is that show still on?), but I’ve missed a lot of really good shit because I wasn’t paying close enough attention. I’ve only ever seen a few episodes of ‘Six Feet Under’, for crying out loud, and it was on eons ago. (Though, if one more person says ‘Did you see that South Park where…’ to me, I might sock them. I’m just not interested anymore.)
I have, however, watched all of ‘Arrested Development’ about seven times and can rewatch ‘QI’ ad infinitum, though, so I make time for stuff that’s familiar. But I need new, intelligent things.
That’s it. I’m going to watch more television. It’ll help with the trivia thing too. It’s all scientific. Not *just* an excuse to be zombie more often.

Speaking of trivia, our pub quiz team now wins so often that we get a slow clap when we are victorious. ‘Congratulations, fuck-os’ is what I imagine they are muttering to themselves.
